Become Like Water My Friend

I’ve been living in Thailand for the last 13 months and it has been amazing for the most part.

My quality of life has improved dramatically. I have more time to pursue the things I enjoy. I have less stress and the weather is awesome.

However there is a huge difference between visiting somewhere for a holiday and living somewhere. The longer you stay in a place the more things you begin to see and understand.

There are a lot of things in Thailand that I don’t agree with and would prefer if things were more like Ireland. The lawlessness of the roads is one example.

But it doesn’t matter where it is you live. We can always pick things to complain about.

There are lots of things I can say that annoy me here. But there are lots of things that annoyed me in Ireland.

Everyday we are encountered with things that can be frustrating. Things that can annoy or upset you. It is your decision whether or not these things get to you.

I think this Bruce Lee quote works well when you apply it to life in general.

“You must be shapeless, formless, like water. When you pour water in a cup, it becomes the cup. When you pour water in a bottle, it becomes the bottle. When you pour water in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can drip and it can crash. Become like water my friend.”

Adapt to your situation or environment. Don’t complain because it isn’t how you would like it to be.

So today when something doesn’t go your way. A guy cuts you off at traffic, someone says something you don’t like and so on.

How are you going to react?

Remember the decision is always yours, whether you want to get annoyed or whether you will ignore it and enjoy the rest of your day.

If you have an important event coming up. Where will anxiety get you?

Will you be in a more advantageous position than beforehand?

Or, will you be in the same position except more stressed about what has happened?

Take responsibility of your life. Stop blaming others. It’s not anyones fault but your own for feeling a certain way and when you begin to adopt this mindset you begin to stop letting external things control the way you feel.

Become like water my friend.
