Cortisol Blockers

There are many different things that contribute to the process of weight gain, and there are hundreds of different supplements that target these various causes. Cortisol blockers are a relatively new type of drug, and it has been met with some controversy. If you are thinking of staring yourself off on this pill then you should get to know all about it.

What is cortisol?

Cortisol is a hormone that is naturally present in your body. The levels fluctuate throughout the day, with it being the highest in the morning. It is released when you are stressed and subsides thereafter. Cortisol is great for the body in small amounts. It can help to fight infections and reduce inflammation. It also stabilized the level of sugar in the blood, and therefore plays a role on reducing weight gain. The problem comes in where your cortisol levels become elevated. This can result in an imbalance of sugar levels in the blood, and can also impair your cognitive function and thyroid function.

How do cortisol blockers work?

Cortisol blockers basically reduce the amount of cortisol that there is in the blood. As a result, you are able to build more muscle and maintain a good sugar balance. Muscle is always burning energy, even at rest, and the more muscle you have the more fat you can burn. When it comes to sugar, it is used as a source of energy in the body, but the problem comes in where excess sugars are converted to fats and stored. A lower cortisol level means a better sugar balance and less fat storage.

The controversy

Cortisol blocking pills have been lambasted. Some argue that there is simply not enough evidence to suggest that these products block cortisol. This stems from the fact that some manufacturers looked at the relationship between cortisol in the urine and body fat content, instead of cortisol in the blood and body fat. This means that the theory behind these pills is flawed. The problem with this is that many people don’t read the reviews and the studies and just go on every word the advertisers say. This pill makes you believe that losing weight is easy and that the fat will melt away on its own without exercise and without dieting. This gives people false hope and is very misleading.

The adverse effects

Any product that affects your body can cause bad effects. The common reported adverse effects of these pills include fatigue, nausea and vomiting. More studies still have to be done to gather more information about this. At this stage it is still very sketchy.

Alternatives

Cortisol blockers are great in theory, but in practise it leaves much to be desired. There are a number of other blockers, and one of the best ones is a carb blocker. This blocks the enzyme alpha amylase, which breaks down carbs to be absorbed into the bloodstream. As a result it reduces the amount of excess sugars being turned into fat for storage. This is a more effective product when it comes to weight loss.
